Hello,
If you attended our June 4, 2009 meeting I would like to clear up some of the statistics I shared about Twitter's retention rate.
Since we were experiencing issues with the video I was facilitating open discussion topics to keep us all engaged and sharing our knowledge.

I mentioned that Twitter from May/June 2008 to May/June 2009 has seen a 1300% increase in registered users. I also said that their retention rate is 80% of registered users are not engaged after 1 month.

I need to clarify the statistics because I have some numbers jumbled. Twitters retention rate of users engaged after one month is actually estimated to be around 40%. That means 60% of users who register do not participate after 1 month. The 80% I used out of context is actually close to the Twitter users who do not use the Twitter website to communicate or receive "tweets". 77% of registered Twitter users communicate with 3rd party applications as opposed to using the Twitter website.

I get a lot of my information from blogs on TechRepublic.com but you can easily "Google" the words "twitter retention" and on the first page of results all this information will be available for your eyes to verify.

I just wanted to formally apologize for my mis-representing the numbers and provide our members and visitors with the proper numbers. I didn't prepare any materials for an open discussion but it is always my intent to present the facts ... and in this case I also get the opportunity to correct myself.

Please remember that the technology information used to day is always changing for tomorrow so these numbers will change. They reflect the current status of Twitter's retention as of June 2009.

Terry
